Best local Web site promotes
its customers' businesses

Donna and Chuck Arthurs of Johnstown were honoured as the local business making the best use of the Web to serve or inform its customers.
JOHNSTOWN - A Web site that offers panoramic virtual reality tours of clients' businesses has been awarded the local honour of making the best use of the Web to serve and inform customers.

Chuck and Donna Arthurs of Johnstown based C360View were honoured for their business achievement in a competition sponsored in partnership between the Leeds and Grenville Business News and NEBS. Leeds and Grenville companies were invited to enter the contest honouring business excellence and achievement last August and September. Winners were chosen by a NEBS panel of judges, and announced during Small Business Week Oct. 21 to 25.

NEBS is a supplier of small business of a range of products, including cheques and forms, software, logo clothing and business gifts, promotional products and other items that help companies manage and promote their businesses.

Each company, organization or municipality that has a virtual reality Web site created by Mr. and Mrs. Arthurs also has the site featured on
www.C360.ca. The Web site offers a business directory and is deigned to drive more traffic to its clients sites through links, enhancing the image for the business owner.

The panoramic moving photos offer tremendous detail, awesome colour and sharp images. leaving viewers feeling as though they were actually there, Mr. Arthurs explained.

The site also promotes the communities in which the businesses are located and features panoramic views of local attractions and historic sites.

Virtual reality sites give the viewer a chance to stretch their comfort zone, giving the feeling of having been to the location previously when they actually do visit. "they get to step into a new environment that they haven't been in before in a non-threatening manner through the person's Web site. It really gives the people the feeling of having been there." so they feel more in control and more comfortable, Mr. Arthurs said.

Using a digital camera. Mr. and Mrs. Arthurs take about 35 shots of a particular area. The images are spliced together using computer software.
