Smyth’s Apple Orchard is a family- run business that has its beginning in the mid-1800’s…situated at historical Dundela, where two monuments commemorate John McIntosh, who discovered an apple tree in his back yard. Through careful attendance and grafting by his son, Allen, the native apple grew in popularity and was appropriately named the McIntosh Red.
McIntosh orchards throughout the world originated from this single tree.
Sam Smyth was a contemporary of Allen McIntosh with the development of a nursery; thus was the beginning of the Smyth’s Orchard.

Smyth’s Orchard has grown to now include 120 acres with over thirty thousand trees with seven cold storages in order to keep the apples as fresh and crisp as possible for the wholesale and retail market which runs from August 1st to mid April.

Customers can purchase many heritage varieties of apples, starting at the end of July with Transparents, Quinte, Rangers, Vista Bella, Melba, Jersey Mac, Paula Red, Lobo, Wealthy, Snows and working our way up to the famous McIntosh ( experience the true flavour of a Mac grown in its birth place) and ending out harvest season with varieties such as Spartan, Empire, Russett, Tolman Sweet, Red and Golden Delicious, Northern Spy, Royal Gala, Honey Crisp, Jonothon – just to mention a few well known apple varieties. There are also three varieties of Pears and Crab-apples.
Customers can experience the delight of browsing the heritage display in search of their favourite variety, with a mouth watering crunch of a fresh apple to help you find the perfect flavour and texture that suites each individual.
We leave the apple sauce making to you, but help you out by offering ready made frozen pies, made from the different apple varieties; everyone has a favourite apple for their pie- take it home and bake it- no one will ever know you didn’t make it.

The gift shop offers fresh made cider- pasteurized or unpasteurized, also in Bulk for wine making (phone orders for bulk cider).
For the family gathering, wedding or just a quiet time at home- enjoy Sparkling Apple Juice- bottled and tastes just like wine , but non-alcoholic, all members of the family can be included from young to old in that special event.

The shop features many jams, jellies and chutneys, all made from apples, along with some no sugar products. For the sweet tooth we have chocolate, caramel covered apples- Apple Bark- Apple Paddies- Candied Apples and dried apples snacks. Gift baskets for that special person, client of family(corporate orders welcome).
